Youth education is central to the mission of the Boothbay Region Fish & Game Association. Through safe instruction, mentorship, and positive role modeling, young people learn responsibility, confidence, and respect for outdoor sports.
We strive to create an environment where youth and families feel welcome, supported, and encouraged to learn at their own pace. Education at BRFGA is about more than skills. It is about building character, fostering community, and shaping the next generation of responsible outdoor enthusiasts.
Learning Through Hands On Experience
BRFGA supports a wide range of educational opportunities designed to introduce youth and families to outdoor skills in a safe and structured environment. Past programs have included youth fishing derbies, firearm safety courses, and introductory shooting sports events that emphasize proper handling, awareness, and respect.
Events such as our youth fishing derbies combine outdoor fun with lessons in conservation, patience, and ethical sportsmanship. These activities help young participants build confidence while learning to appreciate Maine’s natural resources.
Safety Focused Firearms Education
In addition to youth focused outdoor events, BRFGA hosts educational classes that support responsible firearm ownership and safety for new shooters, families, and community members. These courses are taught by qualified instructors and are designed to build knowledge, confidence, and safe habits.
Past instructional offerings have included beginner focused handgun safety classes and comprehensive carry and home defense education. These programs stress safe handling, legal responsibility, and thoughtful decision making, reinforcing the values that BRFGA promotes across all activities.
A Supportive and Respectful Environment
All youth and education programs at BRFGA are grounded in a culture of safety, respect, and responsibility. We believe learning should be approachable and encouraging, whether someone is holding a fishing rod for the first time or attending a classroom based safety course.
By bringing together experienced mentors, families, and community members, BRFGA creates opportunities for shared learning that extend beyond the range or the water. Our goal is to ensure that every participant leaves with greater confidence, stronger skills, and a deeper respect for outdoor traditions.
